SolarPACES 2025: Powder2Power presents advances in particle-based CSP technologies

The Powder2Power consortium presented several research results at the 31st SolarPACES 2025 international Conference, held in Almería, Spain, from 23 to 26 September 2025. SolarPACES (Solar Power and Chemical Energy Systems) is an international collaborative programme of the International Energy Agency (IEA) that promotes the development and commercialisation of CSP technologies worldwide. Each year, the conference provides a unique forum for presenting the latest scientific results, technological innovations and industrial developments in the field of solar thermal energy.

During the conference, partners presented five scientific posters and one oral presentation highlighting ongoing research activities within the project (click on the links for high-resolution files):

  1. Simone Girelli, Benjamin Grange, Giancarlo Gentile, Dario Alfani, Marco Binotti. Comparison of modelling techniques for fluidized particle based cavity receivers (oral presentation).
  2. Alex Le Gal, William Baltus, Roger Garcia, Antoine Perez, Anita Haeussler, Jan Baeyens, Emmanuel Guillot, Gilles Flamant. The Powder-to-Power project: A MW-scale demonstrator of a solar plant using particles as heat transfer and storage media (poster).
  3. Taras Koturbash, Silvia Trevisan Rafael Guedez Mata. Experimental investigation of Vertical Electrical superHeater design for olivine particles in CSP (poster).
  4. Taras Koturbash, Carolina Myrvoll, Ellen Turås. Experimental investigation and optimisation of flow dynamics of gravity moving bed electric heater for olivine particles in CSP (poster).
  5. Mariola Guerrero, Magdalena Barnetche, Cristina Prieto Ríos, Benjamin Grange, Simone Girelli, Dario Alfani, Marco Astolfi. Fluidized particle-driven CSP integration model for MW-scale commercial applications (poster).
  6. Benjamin Grange, Gilles Flamant. Design of an Optimized Utility-Scale Heliostat Field Coupled with a Particle Fluidized Bed Solar Receiver (poster).
