The objectives of the WP4 involve leveraging the project demonstration facility for upscaling the solution to commercial applications, encompassing both From the Meter (FTM) installations ranging from sizes above 10 MW to 50-60 MWe and Behind the Meter (BTM) installations for sizes below 10 MW. The focus includes the design of major components tailored for utility-scale applications. The WP4 involves designing hybrid systems that can be integrated with solar facilities utilizing the project technology. The key performance indicators (KPIs) for evaluating and assessing the technology will be defined. The engineering focus extends to intricate components, including particle-to-sCO2 heat exchangers and electrical heating systems. Summary

Building upon the solar pilot developed in the H2020 Next-CSP project at the Themis solar tower, the WP3 aims to gather experimental contributions, facilitating the experimental demonstration campaign and addressing upscaling challenges. For this, three main objectives are: 1- to modify the existing pilot facility layout to match that of a commercial power plant, 2 – to demonstrate the POWDER2POWER concept over the course of one year using the modified pilot facility, and 3 – to deduce an Operations & Maintenance guide from the experimental campaign, providing essential insights for future implementations.

WP2 focuses on fundamental and technological aspects of using particle suspensions in CSP plants, particularly addressing particle conveying loops and superheating. Key objectives include understanding suspension hydrodynamics under varying conditions, predicting particle attrition impact on dust formation, assessing erosion effects on construction material, and integrating findings into the design of the P2P pilot plant's particle conveyance system. The work also explores methods for electrically superheating particles before entering the hot storage and power block. Lessons learned from pilot-scale operations will inform future large-scale particle-driven CSP designs.
