In June 2026, the Powder2Power consortium met at the Themis solar tower research infrastructure in Targasonne, France, for the project’s 2nd Review Meeting with European Commission Project Officer Clara Astudillo.
Project Review Meetings are key milestones in Horizon Europe projects. Horizon Europe Project Review Meetings enable the European Commission to assess project implementation, review scientific and technical progress, discuss future work and ensure that the project is progressing towards its objectives and expected impacts.
Throughout the meeting, consortium partners presented the progress achieved across the different work packages, covering scientific research, technology development, project management, dissemination and exploitation activities. Among the topics discussed were:
- progress in the development and integration of the MW-scale demonstration platform,
- advances in the different technological components of the Powder2Power concept,
- preparation of the upcoming demonstration activities,
- dissemination, communication and exploitation actions supporting the project’s impact, and
- planning of the next technical and organisational milestones.
Visit of the Themis demonstration facility
A key highlight of the review meeting was the visit to the Themis solar tower research infrastructure, where partners and the European Commission Project Officer observed the latest progress in the integration of the project infrastructure. The visit provided first-hand insight into the MW-scale prototype currently under construction and enabled discussions around the different technologies that will be demonstrated within Powder2Power, including the particle solar receiver, thermal energy storage, particle conveying system, heat exchanger and power conversion concept. The visit also illustrated how the individual technological developments presented throughout the project are progressively being integrated into a complete demonstration platform.
